Sol Campbell would be one of the first names on my 'in my lifetime England XI sheet', but as a central defender rather than a manager (El Tel by a country mile). Steve Guppy always got stick for his end product whilst wearing the quarters, but he is in front of Grealish on that front and streets ahead of Carlton Palmer too, imagine the field day that Kane and Shearer would have with him supplying from the left wing.
Back whence he came for Jonson Clarke-Harris. £700,000 sounds very reasonable for a striker who has averaged a goal every other game for the last three or four years and is still under 30.
He's an absolute a-hole isn't he? A grade A piece of sh1t. However (I think) Eni Aluko is not a good pundit at the moment. There are certainly a lot better female pundits out there. And saying she's not good is not a dog whistle for other nonsense, it's just my opinion.
The irony is that top level "men only" punditry has traditionally been lazy, inane and a little pointless - merely grist for the hype mill. I have learned way more about the game from listening to Danny Senda, Jack Grimmer or Nick Freeman on co-comms than years of former "big time" players like Jamie Carragher.

Campbell was a great player, but not as good as Ferdinand or Terry
I don't ever recall Guppy getting stick for his end product!
Me neither! Seem to remember his crossing stats at Leicester showing him as more accurate (as in hit a team mate) than David Beckham.
His crossing was brilliant.
What a nightmare to defend against he must have been.
Get close to him and he just skipped past you, stand off and he'll stick it on the striker's head with pinpoint accuracy.
And he chased back and defended when we didn't have the ball.
It was a sad day when he left.
He came back for a cameo and still had it even in his mid to late 30's
Colchester have sacked their second head coach of the season. They have never been able to find the next Blooms!
Has anyone done a welfare check on the Col U forum after we signed Richard Kone?
Was going to say. I wasn't as regular a viewer back then, but Guppy was an absolute star man.
Still so annoying Keegan basically stole him, didn't play him, then ended up bringing him into an England squad later on.Madness.
The Cowley Brothers have just been appointed as Managers of Colchester Utd. Another bullet dodged!
Rob Cowling? Shit, Nicky. I thought you said Rob Couhig. That's two weeks I'm not getting back
So THAT's why they were at Wycombe games - to watch Colchester's sole decent manager in recent years, to try and glean some tips.
We best keep winning games now we've lost the option of these guys 😘
Johnson-Clarke Harris to the horse punchers for 700k is something.

Where did the horse punchers get that sort of money from? They are really backing Matt Taylor.
Having a new owner with wealth in excess of £500m probably helps.
A spectacular illustration of the January silly season is that Gillingham have been linked with Jonson Clarke-Harris, with a fee of £900,000 mooted.
700k for a league 1 club sounds absolutely staggering to me.
He didn't take this well......

I was in the 'He's trying to get his podcast started' camp but today's tweets are much more 'He's having some kind of breakdown'
I really like Eni Aluko.
I think Aluko is pretty poor, probably the worst.
The best thing to come out of this though is I'm sure Barton won't get another job managing a professional club anymore
This entire thing has nothing to do with the standard of punditry. Barton doesn't give a shit about any of it.
It's a cynical, and unbelievably transparent attempt to build a new career as a podcaster/social commentator earning money doing the usual rounds.
Trouble is, he isn't anywhere near a clever as he thinks he is and it's not going to work.
He's actually throwing up some pretty alarming red flags regarding his state of mind.
You want to bet?
Agree re. Aluko, but clubs have employed even more unsavoury characters than Barton. He'll get another job, sadly.
His reply to Gary Neville is far more troublesome.

@Joey7Barton
Gary, please keep your head down or you will get emptied as well.
I know they pay your wages and I don’t want to have to put you away.
