I'll sign but the bigger issue to me is affording a ticket let alone buying one. It's another national scandal right under our noses that barely gets a nod
When a £120 return from London to the Midlands doesn't guarantee you a seat there's something very wrong.
Couple of weeks ago I went from Milton Keynes to Manchester and they wanted £280 with no reserved seat.
Just HW to Marylebone can leave a sizeable hole in your pocket. Far cheaper if there are 2 of you to drive to Westfield or Ealing and park for less than a tenna and get the tube. And if you want to stop people using their cars this is hardly the way forward.
If I'm going to London and back during the daytime, I'll go from Amersham - absolute peanuts compared to the Wycombe route, even with my railcard.
Always go to London from Amersham tube. Miles cheaper.
''Stop the Tory's closing the nations ticket offices''
If only you had written ''Stop the Tories closing the nation's ticket offices'', that would have been the correct use of apostrophes. Nice try, but no cigar.
Yup, I commute to games from North East London via Marylebone and the 25 minute train costs as much as the match day ticket.
We need to re-nationalise the railways instead of letting private companies and other European governments run our railways to extract profit out of the country for their own shareholders and subsidise their own railways. It's an absolute disgrace.
After some recent jaunts around Europe where I have hopped on and off public transport without the need for a 2nd mortgage its difficult to argue. Ironically probably some of the services I was enjoying I had already paid for via Chiltern Railways.
Isn't Chiltern owned by Germany's state railway operator or something mad?
Yup, owned by Arriva who are owned by Deutsche Bahn.
At least there’s no charge to fill in @ChasHarps ’ questionnaire (or whatever the link may ultimately lead to).
Slightly disturbing outbreak of ‘yups’ this morning (and they’re not coming from across the Atlantic).
I like ‘yeah’ (which probably also originates from the States) because “yeah, right”, in the right tone, carries more meaning than any other two word responses that I can think of.
Just saying.
That's the one
Chiltern Railways have said that they will close all ticket offices if the plan goes through. This includes Marylebone.

I predict chaos next year when we're all heading to the playoff final.
I can't see what the problem is. Hardly anybody uses ticket offices these days, any more than High Street travel agents, insurance brokers, or music stores. All that stuff is mainly done online.
If I need a train ticket, I just book it online using Trainline.com (other websites are available) and collect the ticket from the machine at the station, using the code emailed to my phone.
The trouble is the people who do use them need to use them.
Everyone who is happy using mobile tickets etc will be fine. But it’s the people with disabilities, or the people without access to a smart phone, or the people who for whatever reason need support that will be disproportionately impacted by these proposed closures.
As with banks shutting the facility is all very well and good so long as they invest in the back office or call centres that said to replace them. But they don't. Net result customer service goes to sh1t, more profit for corporation.
You normally use a bit of punctuation, don’t you, @TheAndyGrahamFanClub?
But totally agree with your comment. 👍🏼
Apologies. On first reading I thought there was no punctuation at all. I was wrong (or me bad, as TH would say).
Most interesting punctuator is @Alexo. Always intrigues me.
I've used a ticket office and a record shop in the last couple of weeks - am I broken?
Phone + anger = shitty punctuation
Quite possibly broke if you went for classic vinyl and a journey over 2 miles.
"so what if there's no wheelchair ramp? I just walk up the steps"
All well and good until your phone dies or gets nicked.
Also, that ticket machine at Wycombe Station is about the worst I have ever encountered
Perfect.
