I'd give Critchley a go. Did well at Blackpool, QPR were already in decline before he joined (Beale had 1 win in 5 when he jumped ship to Rangers in Scotland).
My argument here has always been that our greatest asset is our culture (including current management and players as part of that, holistically). With all the will in the world, if we get a decent "normal" manager in, he might be talented, but without maintaining the culture, we don't have the money to compete based on pure conventional playing talent.
I feel as though Blooms has proven the point a little already with Colchester (though a lot remains to be determined there, of course). My obsession is not nostalgia for the sake of nostalgia, but a belief that we have the keep this special culture intact which took a decade to build, if we want to remain at all competitive.
My source is a very reliable one. Of course things can change in negotiations but unless anything drastic changes, I stand by what I first said - it's a done deal.
Don't like to mention people before/if Gareth goes, but someone's name I'd throw in is Warburton, I've always thought he was a decent manager and reading through the QPR forum it seems a lot thought he should never of been sacked in the first place, good with younger players as well. Whether he'd be happy to drop to league one though not sure.
Not to sure about all this boot room, has to be someone from the club stuff. I've no problem with it being someone completely fresh and different
Saint Martin's management style and footballing philosophy is not a million miles from Gareth's. He has the charisma, desire and love of the club to succeed again.
I'm hearing from credible sources that Martin has let people know, that he would find the job very appealing.
As I said this morning, Matt Bloomfield is not going to jump ship after only a couple of months at a club that has given him his big chance... he has more class than that
I'm sure we'd all like to keep the special culture going, but that's physically impossible with its two main proponents gone. Also, the majority of internal appointments don't work out.
Absolutely shocking time to lose Gaz if/when he does go. O’Neill would be a great shout for the rest of the season and then go from there. He may still want to see out his silly little dream 👍
I get the lure of a Championship club, especially one which you had fond memories of as a player and where the fans adore you, but seriously QPR?
By all accounts QPR is a disfunctional, toxic environment, with intensly disliked owners, fans turning on Sir Les (another who was held in great regard until recently) and a very checkered financial past & present. I would personally avoid it like the plague.
As ever at this stage of the season there is a whole waiting room full of fairly recently ditched managers, many of whom have experience at that level or higher (18 of the clubs in the Championship have changed their manager this season), something GA really doesn't yet have. I suspect given the recent expressions of board confidence in Moyes & Potter they will be taking their seats in the waiting room before long.
Potter & Jones are great examples of how the grass is rarely greener on the otherside & ought to be a cautionary tale to all.
Of course given I am not ITK nor do I know anyone who is ITK; so I am probably just talking bollocks.
The key point about Potter and Jones is the fact that they are now financially secure due to massive pay offs. Every cloud has a silver lining in terms of football managers.

Normally reliable.
Gutting.
😞
I'm loving all the ex player nostalgia.
But this thread has been like some mad obsession with only bringing players in who have played for us before.
There's a wealth of other managers out there.
Although a Bayo, Guppy combo, with JJ learning the ropes would be pure scenes.
His "source" is probably someone on here.
I've been mentioning that a few times.
If that's not pure fate I don't know what is.

It's fine, his "source" is this forum!

I'm hiccuping like crazy - hope its contagious!
I assume the only thing that can save us is GA cashing his signing bonus check quickly and it bouncing before tomorrow.

That is why we need Matt Bloomfield back.

He’s also come out and said this on the radio today. Timing could be a massive coincidence but hopefully might be something more to it!
It’s remarkable that so many who know Matt Bloomfield believe he is the kind of person who would walk out less than five months into a job.
Huge test for the Couhigs coming up.
The blow of Ainsworth leaving would be considerably softened if Martin O’Neill returned…that would be just fantastic.

Has a club ever lost two of the best players in their history, and the best manager in their history, in the space of weeks?
We are at a pivotal moment in this great club's lifetime
Ainsworth goes, all the magic goes with him.
Only the Ainsworth magic goes - the WWFC magic will continue 👍

Has there ever been a season in the club’s history that has been more cursed?
That's the spirit.
If true two things become much more likely:
1) An Ainsworth Derby next season.
2) My prediction for the attendance for the Shrewsbury game is out by a long way.
The key point about Potter and Jones is the fact that they are now financially secure due to massive pay offs. Every cloud has a silver lining in terms of football managers.
I think it’s probably a fair assumption that the morale of the players will be as low as all of us posting on here today.
I suspect there will have been quite a few tears shed given the relationship Gareth Ainsworth has with the players.
The detrimental effect this will have on our season cannot be understated.
If he does go I'm going to smash a cup.
