In fact they signed an U-21 lad from Liverpool on loan this morning, although yes, horse puncher mate says Joey didn’t want the game on or they could have sorted the pitch for tomorrow.
Didn’t want the game on? A scurrilous rumour surely? Worth pointing out that so far it is the only game in the entire top four divisions of English football that has been postponed. However, Joey was presumably keen for the game to go ahead remembering what he said about Wycombe after losing on Boxing Day: ‘Do they put fear into you? Absolutely not. I wouldn’t swap for any of their players.’
I’m surprised that a pitch as far west as Bristol is frozen hard enough to justify a postponement, to be honest.
I should have posted on this thread (hadn’t spotted it) about the situation with regard to our match against Oxford but I did put a couple of comments about that on the Rovers attendance thread.
Hard frosts are forecast for tonight and tomorrow night and forecast daytime temperatures aren’t going to do much to soften playing surfaces. A less hard frost overnight into Tuesday offers a glimmer of hope perhaps but the Met Office forecast of the temperature only briefly going a couple of degrees above freezing during Tuesday means that leaving the undersoil heating off would be a big gamble.
I didn’t understand @LX1’s reference, I’m afraid but I hope I haven’t slipped up in my interpretation of the official forecasts. I’m entirely dependent on my former employers (if I can call them that, given that my five years in the Met Office were well over sixty years ago).
I believe that local league games in and around Bristol are also going ahead. Interesting that Barton said after losing on Boxing Day: ‘Do they (Wycombe) put fear into you? Absolutely not.’ I have it on good authority that, despite his comment, Barton wasn’t exactly devastated when the game was postponed.
I was down here for the weekend so went to the Bristol City v Blackburn Rovers game.
1-1, not a great advertisement for the Championship, first half boring but it livened up when Blackburn scored first after the break. They also had a second yellow. Passing was fast and accurate, particularly by the visitors, but both teams lacked an edge in and around the box. Amazingly it was Blackburn's first draw, they are in the play-offs despite 13 losses.
Only about 500 away fans, I thought they would have brought more. A 19k crowd, a huge concourse under the stand sold a good selection of food drink. I was very surprised that the police allowed the two Bristol clubs to be at home at the same time.
Ye gods, what is that all about? Thank goodness our children's TV characters were more sensible and down to earth, like Twizzle and Jiffy the Broomstick Man.

Local horses will sleep well tonight.
I thought their ground was the best in the world?
Except for the horses head in the groundsmans bed
When is this likely to be rescheduled...?
Never great to lose a Saturday game but on a selfish level I couldn't make this one.
Hopefully we can make use of this freshness for Tuesday and know we then don't have a game Saturday after either.
Hope they put this in March but dare say they'll go Feb.
Non league clubs really should not be admitted to the EFL without fit and proper stadiums.
Blow it. Just arrived at a hotel in Bristol to see the news. Still that is better to announce it now rather than 2pm tomorrow.
It is in fact currently bright and sunny with a temperature of 6 degrees C.
Lmao!
Could have asked their manager to breathe on the pitch, he’s full of hot air 😀
For anyone still going down there, Bristol City v Blackburn Rovers is still on.
Disappointing. They have big issues at centre half. We could've exploited them before the end of the window

Maybe Joey couldn't brave a chilly Saturday with his newly shaved head?
Stinks. Bristol has the best weather for getting a game on this weekend.
@micra will know best as bananaman's enemy the weatherman

All other games local to Rovers are on.
Bristol City
Yeovil
Newport
Gloucester
Forest Green
A non league club in all but League.

Hopefully it backfires nicely on them when we're able to field a Mawson-Taf combo, when probably wouldn't have done today.
To be fair, Newport and Yeovil have now been postponed and, presumably, Bristol City have undersoil heating.
Yep, and in more fairness, 4 games in L1, 9 in L2, 10 in the conference, and most of the tiers below that are off.
So it's not like Rovers have orchestrated some elaborate hoax here.
Other than Bristol City, which games are you talking about?
Yes, I spotted that, of course, but I was focussing on the matches which @wwfcblue listed.
Oddly, the National League seems to have opted for a bit of ‘other’.
Seems to me their draining was actually more the issue.
“The freezing weather conditions have turned standing water into frozen areas, which has led to an unsafe playing surface.”
I did read that comment and immediately thought "Puddles of frozen p**s"!

Bananaman ref. As a weatherman thought of you. For eighties kids this is formed our lives

Glad I wasn’t alone in being bewildered.
