I appreciate we've now got Mawson on the bench but I'd also have reserved a space on it for Wakely, given Forino is just recovering from injury. If he's not considered capable for the bench even with this injury-ravaged team, he's got to be sent out on loan this window to free up space.
I’d argue pound-for-pound that Taf is our most indispensable player, so it’s a little worrying to see him out of the team completely.
Hopefully something minor.
There will be a really contrasting view of the rest of our season depending on the result today. Win and I think we’ll still be pretty optimistic, lose and I think there will be a lot of concern about the season ahead, not in relegation terms, but in terms of not being competitive for playoffs or promotion.
Seem to be getting unlucky so far with faff on Bishop and injuries, so hopefully that luck reverses itself as the season develops!
So you would have preferred Gareth to have announced yesterday that Taff and Vokes are injured, giving Shrewsbury plenty of time to amend their tactics? I thought your knowledge of the game was better than that, didn’t expect you to descend to Wanderers82 level.
No, but he can provide an update now (although Shrewsbury will have been working on their tactical approach all week, so I'm not sure 24 hours' notice would give them any meaningful advantage). If managers in the PL - where the stakes are much higher - openly discuss injuries, so should ours.
One or two people on here clearly don’t understand the concept of a squad. This isn’t FIFA 22. Most teams have a solid core group of starters and then a group of squad players. Hanlon would have started today as back up to Vokes but is also injured. Mellor is clearly third choice so gets the nod.
I have no complaints about the team today. Looking forward to the game and hopefully a Freeman masterclass later in the game, against some tired legs.

Mellor hattrick incoming
Oh dear indeed. Just the one central defender or is JJ going to play there in a back four?
One plus.
Nick Freeman.
On bench.
At least our attacking approach will be much more cultured. Those long hoofs to Vokes get very tiresome.
He's not a liar, he's a MASTER OF MINDGAMES
This will be interesting without Vokes and Taff. May have to play more on the floor with Mellor upfront as he lacks Vokes’s physical presence.
Cue Taff panic!
he is a master of talking the piss, treating fans like mugs
When did GA say no-one was injured ? And unavailability isn’t always due to injury.
Pull yourself together, son.
I used to defend the club's stance on this, but I've had just about enough of the lack of clarity over injuries. Just tell us.

If Vokes and Hanlan are out for anything remotely long term then a striker in before the end of August is another priority.
whilst the concerns over Vokes/Taf are entirely reasonable, I’m hoping to see an Al-Hamadi cameo at some point.
De Barr also not in the squad

could not agree more , he just mugs the fans 0ff , zero transparency , just shows a lack of respect and shows why he is only a league 1 manager
It's clearly not the best squad we've ever had if we don't have adequate backup for 2 players

In certain cases he might be right.
I think i will leave this thread to the gleeful trolls today...
get your nose out of GA back end, such a lapdog

To be fair to GA in his pre-march with @bluntphil he tlaked about the injuries
You have such a charming command of the English language to accompany your boundless enthusiasm and positivity.

Just had a long conversation with an older gentleman, he’s been a regular since 45, I feel such a kid.
I can understand people wanting to know everything about their team but, at this level, I think 'fog of war' is a useful tactic to have.
Some fans would feel happier if GA would also publish match tactics, not just who's injured.
Those same fans would no doubt have a melt down when the opposition play so as to completely nullify our tactics.

Right, but - as usual - no word on rough timescales for return
If any player, but particularly one of our older players, has any kind of a knock, today’s weather is surely a good reason why we shouldn’t risk them
