Re: Rumour Mill
I’d be surprised if any club in the top two divisions AREN’T interested in Richard Kone. Whether they have the seven figures needed to sign him (and I’m told Wycombe are not prepared to sell unless there is an outrageous offer) is another story.
Re: Rumour Mill
It is testimony to the job Blooms has done when we see postings how being promoted to Championship helps to get him to stay.
I really hope the Ownership Group offers Matt a contract extension or whatever, that would be perfect recognition.
99% of all new owners would have wanted to sack him just to get their own man in.
Fair play to them for sticking with Matt and please god, supporting him.
It must be baffling to find exactly the right person for the job right in front of your nose.
Thank you to the Ownership Group and Happy Christmas to every poster, be they home or away.
The gasroom is fabulous, thank you to Dr. Congo and team.
Re: Rumour Mill
Its a massive stick or twist transfer window. Dan Rice said that the plan was not promotion in year 1 but if we found ourselves in a good position they would not tell Matt to back off and would do what they could. So here we are, potentially top going into Christmas.
The fit squad is certainly good enough. But losing loanees and having a crystal ball knowing who is going to get injured between now and the end of the season would help.
A fit squad and we have strength in pretty much every position. Personally I'm more interested in the rumours regarding the out's rather than then in's.
Re: Match Day Thread: Bolton
Thank you @LDF.
@Malone (a great guy who talks a lot of sense except when doing his fabled Professor Stanley Unwin impressions) and @mooneyman (a right card and no mistake) have made me careful over recent years not to be overly didactic.
i have just returned to the Gasroom after a short break and couldn’t believe the quantity (?) of comments on the Matchday and Morley threads in particular. I saw @mooneyman’s comment about spelling and grammar being governed by my rules and decided against suggesting that @Malone’s amount of people should (preferably) be the number of people.
The “rule” (ie custom and usage) used to be that ‘number’ was applied to something which had countable components (eg the number of people attending an event) and ‘amount’ applied to things (eg sand, salt, granulated sugar) which could only be quantified by weight or volume.
However, the use of ‘amount’ to refer, for example, to the number of people has now become so widespread that I think us (we) pedants just have to grin and bear it.
Re: Where would you like us to be in the future?
For myself, I can’t sensibly look beyond next season (and it’s fingers crossed for that one !) but I would love it if Wycombe became established as a Championship club, attracting upwards of 10,000 fans (including away fans) on a regular basis - ideally at a more accessible new stadium (which realistically will not be before the 2026/27 season).
Meanwhile, I’ll happily settle for at least part of next season watching Wycombe playing in the Championship on WanderersTV or a sports channel on TV.
Re: Where would you like us to be in the future?
This, really.
I think the best we could hope for would be for the academy to consistently produce players to sell on up the chain - it’s easier said than done though, especially with such a heavily scouted catchment area (not referring to Kazakhstan).
I’m genuinely not that arsed about getting to the EPL - I’ve seen the approach that some of the less glamorous clubs at that level (Fulham and Charlton are the ones I can definitely remember, though I’m sure there’s more) have taken to pull in the floating punters, which is all about, “Come and watch great teams like Arsenal and Chelsea” (and barely mentioning the home team).
Just scraping by each season is not that appealing, especially not at the EPL level where you’re chucking buckets of cash at it just to keep your head above water. Reading FC’s current turmoil should act as a warning to anyone.
Re: Rumour Mill
I think Morley knows he will be spending the rest of the season at Wycombe despite Evatt’s best attempts to drive up the amount Wycombe pay for him.
Re: Match Day Thread: Bolton
Fred's was a penalty all day long. My theory is that because he was running towards the corner of the box instead of the goal, it was seen as "not as serious" subconsciously by the ref and lino. If the same shove happens with Fred bearing down on goal it would have been given.
Note to ref: It's even called the 'Penalty Area' to help you out.
Couldn't Ravs have produced another stunning bloke to referee the game?
Re: Rumour Mill
So going back the logic of some other posters, Stockport should just leave Barry out of the squad for the next 3 games before his return to Villa, considering he has no future with them! Huddersfield and Birmingham both within their next 3, two big games before he leaves.
