Re: Matt Bloomfield to Luton?
I think that’s what I was saying actually. I was responding to another post saying that the new regime has said the priority is the academy. For me, you can’t prioritise the academy over the first team, it’s surely a function of the first team, they’re completely interrelated.
Re: Dave Evans award
He had hair like Darren Currie when I last saw him! Excellent coach and the driving force in the early days of our youth football with Nas Bashir.
Re: The manager post Matty Bloomfield?
We don't need to appoint someone with no managerial experience. It makes little sense in the grand scheme. Might be different if we had a load of young players in the team who came through the development team.
Also think he'd be sacked very early if we lost a few games or a player or two openly questioned him.
Re: Matt Bloomfield to Luton?
If you offered me this situation all those years ago whilst stood on that terrace at Torquay I would have snapped both of your hands off
Re: Matt Bloomfield to Luton?
I really don't understand this view that Rice and co are only interested in the academy and not the first team. They've parted with the best part of £1million+ in the past 2 weeks for first team signings! Obviously the academy is central to their project, but it's mad to suggest they aren't also strengthening the first team.
Re: Matt Bloomfield to Luton?
I don't actually understand all the moaning and hatred towards Rice. It was only last week that we were begging the new regime to sign us some players. We have allegedly broken our transfer record twice in a month, and now we hate them?
Nobody knows what is going on behind the scenes. I love Matt Bloomfield but long term, I don't think he was the guy to lead us either. Sentiment plays no part in football, and if Rice and co are offering us a long term vision to make this club successful, then I'm all for it. IF it works. Time will tell, of course, but you don't get anywhere without taking risks.
Completely hypothetical - but say we get promoted, and then get promoted to the Premier League like Brentford did - are we still going to want Rice out?
Sit back and be thankful for where we are - which right now, is punching well above our weight. "Tiny little Wycombe Wanderers signing players for £700k". We could only dream of this a few years ago. You start wishing away what we currently have and what comes with that:
- the new academy
- the income that comes with that
- giving opportunities to young aspiring footballers and coaches
- a successful team
- increased attendances
I'd like to be part of that if it works, but to find out if it does, we have to go along with it.
The ultimate goal in football is to win and be the best. Let's have a go!
Re: Matt Bloomfield to Luton?
At first I thought the guy in red was filming the transit on his phone and then after closer inspection I saw in fact he had a very small policeman on his shoulder .
Re: Matt Bloomfield to Luton?
How quickly people forget about Wycombe's 1981 triumph in the schools cup, complete with a health & safety nightmare of a victory parade.
Though back to the points you made, the academy is, according to the communication we've had thus far from Lomtadze, is the key focus of his project. Increase use of data analytics was also mentioned, which appears to be the real sticking point between the new regime's "Ricicle boys" and Matt Bloomfield. The control over recruitment seems to have been reduced (if not completely removed) from the manager's role, which Matt Bloomfield is entitled to find an unacceptable level of interference.
Signings like Kone would quite possibly not have happened with the new regime, but searching for talent in the depths of non-league and utilising extensive contacts with coaches in Essex and East Anglia seems to be an area that Bloomfield specialises in. Judging by the Danish players that are being brought in, the new regime seems to be keen on a moneyball, stats-driven method of identifying undervalued players who could provide value and also make an instant impact.
