Re: New Manager Rumour Mill
Not for me, I'm sure we'd all of took 7 points out of those 3 games he's been in charge for. However I think there's better options available.
A late winner at Mansfield was just what the players, staff and fans needed. We followed that up with a poor result and poor performance against Northampton and then last night apart from the first 20 minutes we looked good against an average Barnsley side.
It took a penalty, them going down to 10 men and a brilliant goal 5 mins into injury time for us to get the 3 points. As we all know they missed an absolute sitter just before we scored the winner and the mood today would have been so much different.
I think we need stability and getting a manager we believe will continue the great start to the season and also take us to the next level. Sam Grace isn't that person for me, but he's done brilliant and he can go back to the role he has been doing for the club with his head held high.
Re: New Manager Rumour Mill
Trouble is, if he takes/gets it, then things don't turn out as hoped he's gone, not even a job at the club, just like Smillie. Would be a massive shame when he seems very secure with the development side of things. He might not even want it full time ?
Was anyone spotted in the crowd last night ?

Barnsley fans still remarked on the Wycombe crowd making more noise than Oakwell does, so well done you lot!
Re: Match Day Thread: Barnsley
Early morning reflection on a wonderful result and performance. Lots said over the last couple of weeks, some understandable - some kneejerk, you could feel the pressure building in the team and with fans here and in the stadium, to go behind to a mistake and then fight back is more impressive than a standard win against a poor side.
The King sounds committed as well as being bang on form, SG getting reward for calmly steering through difficult times and GMac who will just not go quietly into retirement, what a man.
Hopefully this takes the temperature down a notch and let's everyone breathe for a few days, we might not like all recent decisions and the long term future of a club like ours is always precarious but this is a very good squad, with others waiting to supplement the starting eleven, and it's a great time to be a supporter of this fine football club..it generally is.
Re: Match Day Thread: Barnsley
Only his second career headed goal - and what a header it was.

You can’t blame him, he wasn’t even in the squad today.
Re: Match Day Thread: Barnsley
Up for a while after one of the regular wee breaks so took the opportunity to listen to Sam Grace.
I don’t suppose the owners are going to offer him the Head Coach job, not least I suppose, as has been mentioned elsewhere, because he’s been doing such a superb job on the youth development side and also one or two reservations have been expressed about the way things turned out for Neil Smillie all those years ago but listening to that interview it just felt to me like he could be a serious contender.
Would like to see a slightly more animated demeanour during games perhaps but that is the calm collected character he clearly is and not all coaches are like whirling dervishes! The Barnsley manager for example remained seated and almost motionless throughout.
I think most of us would feel a warm glow of excitement in the admittedly unlikely event that Dan Rice and his colleagues decided that it made sense to put their trust in the continuity and dedication of a very likeable and competent homespun coach.
Back to bed, perchance to dream.
Re: New Manager Rumour Mill
So is Sam Grace not an option? He’s had a brilliant run over the last few games and from his post match interview he came across very well.
Personally, would love him to be given a crack at it but I would worry if he was given the role it could damage his reputation if it all went awry over the next couple months and we threw away this lead for automatic promotion.
What a great memory to have by being the gaffer over the last three games with a team so together. Priceless.
Re: Match Day Thread: Barnsley
No chance to read through every other post here, but after the week we've had (especially on here!) that was the perfect tonic. A reminder as to why we all absolutely love this club, come rain or shine. Dan Rice - do not sell Kone for any price whatsoever. Days like these don't come around too often. What a club.
