Re: Squad strength - January 2025 transfer window
I still don't really see how Sonny Bradley fits into the strategy we're developing (and the signing of the Danish defender seems to confirm) that we want to play the ball out of the back using central defenders who have pace and guile. I guess when you put in performances as good as Sonny's have been, you tweak the strategy. But his signing doesn't exactly fit with the data model that other players have. It makes me think it was a specific Bloomfield request rather than one unearthed by the quant guys.
Samaritans Score Prediction - Mansfield (a)
There were eight correct result predictions but none with the right score.
None of the previous top eight scored points this week. @Wendoverman stays top - albeit with lead halved to one point but table closes up even more with @Chris climbing four places to fifth and @railwaysteve eight places to a personal best eleventh place just 15 points out of the lead. In the battle of the @ryan_w_kirkby2 brood, Rosie moves above her sister Sadie in the table I think for the first time this season. Don't forget to remind your sister daily of the standings, girl. Good news too for the bottom pair - looking unlikely perhaps that @PukkaPie and @bookertease can close the gap and challenge for the win but at least positive points.
Feels like matches in the second half of the season may be a little harder to predict than the first. Next up a tough one away against Mansfield. You have ten days or so to think through your prediction.
Re: Man of the Match - Mansfield (A)
Looking at the highlights, GMac's winning goal was even better than I thought yesterday.
Following a superb delivery from Humphreys, he dribbled the ball into the box moving right to left, surrounded by a triangle of defenders. He then turned and hit the shot back to the right, catching out the keeper and defenders on the wrong foot.
A great piece of skill, so that got him my vote.
Re: Match Day Thread: Mansfield
Wrexham fans absolutely smashing the players and manager on their forum. Absolute wankers, as if they’re entitled to sweep through the divisions on their march to the premier league. God I hope we don’t attract these kind of people in the future. Sickening scenes.
Re: Man of the Match - Mansfield (A)
Garath has not been in the best of form in recent weeks, hence all the talk of Kodua being given a chance on the right. But class is permanent. You could see from his guttural raw of delight to himself after scoring that the goal really mattered to him. Maybe he had begun to doubt himself - it would be natural at his age to think that maybe the form would never return again. But that goal put any demons to bed. I was delighted for him and now expect many more goals to come (even if they're half as good as yesterday's I'll be very happy indeed).
Re: The definitive ex-player news thread
It’s Alfie Mawson’s birthday today. He’s 31.
Re: New Manager Vote
I'd be delighted with Buckingham and especially delighted with Schumacher
Re: Attendance Prediction - Mansfield Town (a) - Sat 18th Jan '25 - Match 26 in 24/25
Mansfield really are having a great season in terms of crowd numbers, they sell out in the home areas nearly every game which is around 6900.
Yesterday was the 10th time we had played them in the league and apart from one game back in Level 3 in 2003 they have never had a crowd more than 3237 against us with an average over the 9 of 3122.
It does make you wonder why we continue to struggle to get more than 4000 home fans through the gate on average, especially with the season we are having.
Re: Squad strength - January 2025 transfer window
He's out of contract in 5 months so we could sign him irrelevant of Derby.
Re: New Manager Vote
Realistically Sam Grace won’t be in the mix at all and probably doesn’t want to be. As Flymo says let him crack on with what he’s good at as we kick on with the development teams and academy.
Apart from Schumacher though the other names mentioned all feel quite meh. The Buckingham rumour probably true, he would likely apply for the job. Brentford bloke seems plausible as that would seem to fit our strategy. I imagine the Holden rumour was made up by his agent thankfully and I just can’t see the owners going for a non league manager.
