Re: Match Day Thread: Mansfield
Wrexham have a huge issue with the aged squad. By the end of this season the 12 players with the current most appearances will have an average age over 30. Mullin's reached his level and is struggling in a winning team, Fletcher will likely retire as he's 38 and unable to last 45 mins, let alone 90 mins, the three games he's been asked to play more than 45 they've lost all of them.
All four of their main strikers are well over 30 and probably need replacing in the close season. I suspect we might see them slip down the table over the next four months as the number of games hit the older legs.
They've not signed anyone or loaned in anyone yet in January which probably adds to the anger.
Re: New Manager Vote
Yup. We really don't want another Neil Smillie situation on our hands (as a fan, I'm sure Sam Grace will be alive to the parallels and risks to his long term career).
Re: Match Day Thread: Mansfield
Just watched the excellent post match interview with Sam Grace. One of our own, give him the job!
Re: Match Day Thread: Mansfield
While you always want to look forward and progress, there's always a section of the fan base that gets a bit too expectant.
We've seen it a bit ourselves. It wasn't that long ago staying up in league 1 felt a huge thing. Now not making the playoffs would feel a big blow.
Re: Match Day Thread: Mansfield
Just had a read. It is disgraceful what they are saying for a team that was non league a few years ago. A lot about their away form which someone posted the above stats.
Re: Match Day Thread: Mansfield
Was at the match yesterday in Mansfield. Had some lovely chats with some proper fans. Great win and experience, shame about Mansfields fans having a bit of a tiff.
Sam Grace is at the wheel. Give him the contract
Re: Squad strength - January 2025 transfer window
I still don't really see how Sonny Bradley fits into the strategy we're developing (and the signing of the Danish defender seems to confirm) that we want to play the ball out of the back using central defenders who have pace and guile. I guess when you put in performances as good as Sonny's have been, you tweak the strategy. But his signing doesn't exactly fit with the data model that other players have. It makes me think it was a specific Bloomfield request rather than one unearthed by the quant guys.
Samaritans Score Prediction - Mansfield (a)
There were eight correct result predictions but none with the right score.
None of the previous top eight scored points this week. @Wendoverman stays top - albeit with lead halved to one point but table closes up even more with @Chris climbing four places to fifth and @railwaysteve eight places to a personal best eleventh place just 15 points out of the lead. In the battle of the @ryan_w_kirkby2 brood, Rosie moves above her sister Sadie in the table I think for the first time this season. Don't forget to remind your sister daily of the standings, girl. Good news too for the bottom pair - looking unlikely perhaps that @PukkaPie and @bookertease can close the gap and challenge for the win but at least positive points.
Feels like matches in the second half of the season may be a little harder to predict than the first. Next up a tough one away against Mansfield. You have ten days or so to think through your prediction.
Re: Man of the Match - Mansfield (A)
Looking at the highlights, GMac's winning goal was even better than I thought yesterday.
Following a superb delivery from Humphreys, he dribbled the ball into the box moving right to left, surrounded by a triangle of defenders. He then turned and hit the shot back to the right, catching out the keeper and defenders on the wrong foot.
A great piece of skill, so that got him my vote.
