Re: Xavier Simons signs
I bet he’d rather be at our end of the table than where he is at the moment.

Re: Rumour Mill
I know worrying about finances is not currently fashionable on this forum but have to say looking at that squad and the likely wage bill plus the investment in the academy that is unlikely to see any return for many years, the total investment into our club must be phenomenal. Exciting on one hand, worrying on another - a chance to climb to previously impossible heights on one hand, a nagging feeling that this isn't quite now the same club it once was and that I quite liked on the other. Anyway the die is cast and this will be our future for the next period. I guess all we can do is enjoy the ride.

Re: Rumour Mill
Jesus christ! We are giving Forest a run for their money with all the signings LOL
On a serious note; the owners have made a massive statement of intent with the business in this window. Simons could end up being a master-stroke as looks like he can fit into that defensive pivot in midfield. Has been noteable since Morley left how we've been more direct and I'd definately like to see us play out more (like pre XMas).

Re: Xavier Simons signs
I mean, it’s a worry getting them all to gel well, but I think the bit about not signing loads of players and not having money to spend is him trying to spin things and look on the bright side for Shrewsbury than try and throw shade anywhere.
Re: Xavier Simons signs
Sir Gareth gave a short interview last night where he explained to the Shrewsbury fans why he had only signed one player yesterday.
He was slightly downbeat but said at least the club didn't have the problem of spending a lot of of money and signing loads of players and disrupting the dressing room. He didn't mention any team by name but COME ON.
Re: Rumour Mill
Yep...3 goalkeepers not included in total; Kone, Lowry, Simons, Kodua, Humphreys and Taylor I think, so we're one under...
...but we do seem to have 6 loan players there.
...scrub that, Back is permanent, not a loan as stated in BBC Sport report.
Fin Back signs
Everyone deserves their own joining joining thread, so welcome aboard Fin.
You'll possibly be feeling a little disoriented this morning with all the new team mates you're get to know. Just like us supports, as it happens!

Xavier Simons signs
Interesting comments in his interview, I thought.
Says he'd been in discussions for some time about this possible move which was effectively done by Sunday night and yesterday was just about paperwork and medical - so no need for it not to be announced earlier than 11:20. Clearly the media team keeping us all engaged until the end.
Also he's another box to box midfielder - that must be a type the data says is best. And he's featured 20 times for Hull in the Championship this season, which suggests he's coming here with the promise of starting or it's not progression for him.
I don't envy Mike Dodds the task of moulding all these new players together with the existing squad and working out his best team.
We are going to need another new coach, just to transport two sets of players to every game!
Welcome aboard Xavier.

Re: Funniest chants
While we distract ourselves from the torments of transfer deadline day, perhaps I may be allowed to extend the boundaries of what was never a chant, but at least a bon mot from the Wycombe terrace, worthy of reminder some three decades on.
On a less than distinguished night for Wycombe visiting Basingstoke, I think, in the FA Cup, the hosts, enjoying their big chance of giant-killing glory, were all over the media pre-kick-off with tales of the part-time or full-time jobs of their first XI, where much was made of the home GK being a part-time male model promoting fashion wear.
Ten minutes in, in pre-ballboy days, the ball had to be retrieved by the home goalkeeper from a puddle by the corner flag to take a goal kick.
Observed at close quarters by a Wycombe fan, looking rather less than catalogue-fit in a scruffy, rather tightly-fitting, anorak down which drizzled the grease from a dodgy burger, being devoured with the decorum of Ed Miliband attacking a bacon sandwich, he spluttered, at the same time sending remnants of bun, burger and onion into the floodlit night sky, the words which caused the keeper to acknowledge with a laugh Wildean repartee, improbably manifesting in Basingstoke, "You THIN bastard!".
