Re: David Wheeler departs
I felt that this news was coming but it still doesn't hit hard when it lands. He has been excellent throughout his time at the club and apart from GK, Centre back & Left back, I believe he's played in every other position for the club. His energy, determination & passion always shone through and I've never heard anyone question his commitment to the club.
Came in as someone who performed for Exeter, moved to QPR where his career stalled after having a few loan moves to then having 200 appearances with us and being classed as a Chairboy through and through. He also seems to have never aged a day since he arrived either!
Thank you Wheels for everything you've done, all that you've achieved and you deserve the right to find your next chapter!
Re: David Wheeler departs
Properly sad about that. Great player, fantastic person.
Re: David Wheeler departs
Brilliant professional and having met him a couple of times am sure that he’ll get into the sustainability side of the football business on a big way.
Top man.
Re: David Wheeler departs
Inevitable I guess with his lack of game time. Wheels is one man I would always have 100% trust in, whether starting or coming off the bench against any opposition. I wish the very best of luck.
Thank you!!
Re: David Wheeler departs
It's the right decision all round, but I'm still tremendously sad to see him leave. A big favourite of mine and clearly a great guy. His desire, workrate and ability coupled with how he was off the pitch is absolutely everything I want in a Wycombe player. I'm not sure if any other player represented the Wycombe culture and what we were all about better than he did.
I hope he carries on playing (would be great to see him reunite with Ainsworth at Shrewsbury!), as he still has a lot to offer football wise. I suspect however, he may be someone who has even more to offer away from football when he does call time on his career.
Wishing Wheels all the best for the future and thanks for all your efforts at Wycombe!
Re: David Wheeler departs
Does letter suggest that he may be looking to retire or at least go part time?
Whatever he does, I am sure all wish him well. Another of the good guys.....
Re: David Wheeler departs
Had the pleasure of chatting to Wheels on a few occasions; really humble, down to earth and friendly guy, who was a brilliant ambassador for our club. Oh, and he was pretty good on the pitch too! Will never forget the last minute winner v the franchise, the winner v Sheffield Wednesday in the first ever second tier win, or the play off semi final goal.
All the best Wheels!
Re: David Wheeler departs
Tremendous sign off letter from Wheels - the man is a class act all round and it’s sad, if not surprising, to see him leave.
All the best sir!
