Re: Other Football
To be fair, Michael Oliver has given eight Arsenal red cards and one Liverpool red card in a similar amount of games reffed for both, and I think the nearest to Arsenal is Forest with three. If you are an Arsenal fan that does look suspicious (my best friend is a STH so I get the secondhand perspective), especially when they do get the law suddenly enforced to the letter (second yellow for barely tapping the ball away when others don't usually even get a first yellow for hoofing it away).
Someone said that most of the PL refs are from the northwest (and I mean, the vast majority), which, though it cannot be helped if that is just how things have shaken out, is not a good look either.
Re: Other Football
Everything looks worse in superslowmo. Anyway, as others have said, who gives a sh*t? it’s Arsenal.
Re: New Manager Rumour Mill
Afternoon guys. It is afternoon, isn’t it?
I’m absolutely bewildered by that post. Some of the other posts have also had me blinking and rubbing my eyes.
I’m borderline neutral in the culpability stakes. Why MB and DR weren’t able to come to an understanding is beyond comprehension. Well, mine anyway.
MB’s outstanding, unprecedented and possibly now unmatchable success needs no qualification based on his “not having won anything”. He won 16 or 17 matches on the trot for God’s sake.
Out of the numerous potential candidates for the post of Head Coach that I’ve seen on here, few if any, seem likely to be able to emulate MB’s achievements. Not because of incompetence on their part. Just the time it takes to adjust to new ideas and attitudes.
As I’ve said elsewhere, adjusting to a new approach and, for example, having to integrate three or four new signings into the squad will take too long in my opinion for the same impetus to be maintained for the rest of the season.
Of course I would love to be proved wrong but it’s just so sad that this situation had to arise in the first place.
Re: New Manager Rumour Mill
The worrying consideration is whether Rice and co put all of their eggs in the Bertelsen basket. If so, are we starting from scratch having been knocked back? Maybe @kippers hints about us asking the FA about an existing employee this week are signs we had moved on to option 2...
Re: Attendance Prediction - Northampton Town (h) - Sat 25th Jan '25 - Match 27 in 24/25
Thanks as always for the huge effort you put into this competition @railwaysteve.
Hope you find it rewarding.
Re: Match Day Thread: Northampton
To elaborate on @glasshalffull's comment, only one of the top nine clubs in League one have won their last two games, Stockport. Of the other eight clubs, only three (Brum, WW, Orient) have picked up four points. It would appear that Wycombe are not the only club finding wins hard to get.
Re: New Manager Rumour Mill
Didn’t we sound out the next WW manager, as part of our succession planning, under RC, who had earmarked a return to WW for MB from CU, whenever GA finally was to be tempted away from AP? Not sure this is much different to what DR, EV and ML have been doing…
They’ve had a couple of tough blows in the last few days, with SP blocking DI from moving here from CP, and now RB and FA deciding not to ‘up sticks’ to GB. Let’s see if the approach through the FA for LC or SW will bear any fruit.
Re: Match Day Thread: Northampton
A good point about pitches here - was I only one who thought ours looked unusually poor yesterday? Cutting up very easily. I assume it must be the increased frequency of fixtures this month.
