Bucks CCC v Lincs CCC

This Sunday at 11am sees the start of the three day championship match against current champions Lincs at Chesham CC. After winning their first match this season, their first for three years, Bucks followed it up with an innings win at Northumberland, wrapped up in two days. They now sit top of the league with Staffs, on a maximum 48 points. New captain Tom Hampton took eight wickets in that match and his leadership seems to have invigorated an underperforming team. He is one of five High Wycombe CC players in the team.

Chesham is another attractive ground, next to the football ground, so if the match makes it to late on the third day, you can catch some cricket before the footy. Weather is forecast to be 25, 28 and 27 on the three days, the high bank side is tree lined.

Comments

  • Close on day one, Bucks down to earth with a bump, bowled out for 147 off 65.2 overs, Lincs 168-1 off 44 in reply.

  • Quite a historic second day as Lincs posted their highest ever Championship score of 486-3, largely thanks to a superb innings by 23 year old Joe Kendall, 230 n.o. at the 90 over close of innings. That is only two runs short of the record individual score for Lincs, not sure he knew that as he didn't hurry in the final two overs. The Leics 2nd XI player gave a master class in batting, supported by Louis Kimber who hit 137 in a stand of 282.

In reply Bucks are 185-5 at close. After losing two wickets in the opening overs, they staged a fightback, putting on 161 for the third wicket but three late wickets saw the day end disappointedly. The match could well be over by lunchtime as Bucks are still 154 behind.

Anyone wanting more good quality cricket this week can see MCC Young Cricketers take on Lancs 2nd XI at High Wycombe CC tomorrow, the start of a three day game.

  • Cheers for the updates @Steve_Peart - genuinely thankful

  • Lincs won by 8 wickets but it took longer than expected. Michael Payne scored a very good 125 for Bucks, and then the tail well and truly wagged. Rance started it with 29, then Parsons (64 no) and Hampton (48) put on 87 for the ninth wicket. Bucks ended 375 all out, a lead of 36, having started the day at 185-5. Medium fast bowler Willerton did the damage with 7-92. Lincs completed the win at 3:20 pm on 37-2. Scorecard at:

Bucks were without their talented all rounder Garry Park, but perhaps the important decision was when Bucks won the toss and chose to bat, on a very green wicket which clearly helped the Lincs seamers, as they quickly reduced Bucks to 81-7 on the first day.

Playing against a very good batting and bowling side, the positives for Bucks were yet another century for Payne, the batting of opener Alex Woodland (30 & 68) recalled to the side, and the contributions from the lower order batsmen, in both innings. The next match is away to Cambs at Fenners on 5-7 Aug.
