Peterborough 5 Woking 2

This was a Cup replay with a potential upset on the cards. In the end the League One side went through but only after a storming match which was a credit to both sides.

Woking took the lead on 18 minutes with a turn and left-foot shot by Inih Effiong, the former Chesham United striker. Woking were playing neat passing football but were susceptible down the flanks. A good move down the Posh left led to an equaliser from Michael Doughty who swept home from 15 yards.

Woking deserved to be level at the break but were undone by a scrappy looping effort by Jack Marriott just before the break. To their credit Woking took the game to Peterborough in the second-half and sub Matt Young slotted home the equaliser after a mazy run into the box. A great goal.

Woking then committed the cardinal sin after scoring and let Jack Marriott put the Posh in front again moments later with a fierce shot. Woking brought on Jason Banton to strengthen their attack but he was largely anonymous. A penalty by Marcus Maddison sealed Woking's fate and although the visitors hit the post in injury time, Gwion Edwards rifled home a corner in the dying seconds to give the Posh a somewhat flattering 5-2 win. They now travel to Villa Park in Round Three but all the 3,022 crowd (including 516 from Woking) will have enjoyed this game immensely.
