Match day thread: Crawley

  • Noticeably increased efforts to hoof less and play more. Interesting that Bayo's assists were all with his feet, and several times Stewart took a step back to chest a long ball down as opposed to the standard header forward into no man's land. Highly enjoyable afternoon.

  • @HCblue I agree a special treat.Played on the ground and super passing. great team work.

  • That 1st goal was amazing. If it was in the Premiership it would be a goal of the season contender. So far, my goal of the season to date.

  • It helped that Crawley gave us time and space to play good football after the interval. In the (dreadful) first half they did a pretty good job pressing us on the ball, crowding us out in the middle and containing/climing up Bayo. Once the first goal went in however, they just crumpled and a few of their players really seemed to give up at 2-0.

Not to take anything away from our performance though. Very nice passing football and lots of good performances across the team. Obviously CMS was MOTM, but Eze was also superb and PCH had a very good game. Blooms looked good keeping us ticking in midfield and the two centre-backs were solid throughout. Some Crawley fans on the tube saying they sackled Bayo well - but he got two assists! C

  • @EwanHoosaami Yes, it was absolutely beautiful. Football porn!

  • @ValleyWanderer purely a guess as i didn't get a great view of it myself, but i think the ref was suggesting the CMS card was for infringement / pushing the keeper into the net.

  • Bought my 3 under 11 biys to the game today...what a game and what goals!!! EZE is pure class....defo a premiership player in the making.

Apparently ugly scenes between Kewell and the away fans after the final whistle culminating in police interveining?

Yes a bit on Twitter now

  • @Shev at least one was a fake Luis Vuitton

  • Eze is a joy.

He can be whatever he wants to be, what a gifted player

Perhaps the most talented player I have seen in a Wycombe shirt.

What I really love is he isn't just full of tricks. He does the either side of the game too. He's got the full package. What a player

  • That was a fantastic afternoon. Not for the first time this season, we had a half where we completely blew the opposition away. I was of the opinion that, for all the great work CMS does, he hadn't really troubled the scorers enough. He answered that in some style today! And how long is it since we had a player at the club with the sheer skill of Eze? Credit to the defence as well, I though Adam El-Abd and Anthony Stewart were magnificent. OK, Crawley were no great shakes, but credit to the players today, that was a magnificent display.

Eze really is way way too good for league 2. Scores important goals, has great dribbling talent, and the ability to put in a good cross. Plus he really dug in today to work hard in the tackle as well. I think at 4-0 he was still fighting for a couple of balls out on the touch line. Fantastic to see.

Bayo also deserves a special mention too. There can't be many players in the football league with a higher tally of goals and assists combined.

  • Agree with the last few posts.
Eze is the one to really make the most of and enjoy him while he's here.

But Bayo too, enjoy him while he's here! Luckily we have the rest of the season to do that.

We're looking good despite a short run of disappointing results.

Full steam ahead for the playoffs, with an outside look at the top 3?

  • Must also mention the great save by Scott in the first half

  • That was terrific chances converted makes such a difference. This team and squad is the best for a number of years. To think it has Tyson Kashket & Harriman to come back only gives me confidence we could win this division this season.

  • I think we have been overdue giving someone a thrashing, after some of the disappointing performances by us (Morecambe, Swindon), and the linesman (Cheltenham).

  • Interviews with Craig Mackail-Smith and Gareth Ainsworth following today's win:

  • That save by Brown in the 1st half was as good as anything I've seen in a long while, a truly great save. It would've been a different game had Crawley taken the lead. I actually thought they looked a decent side in the first 45. 2nd half however we were superb and played them off the park. 4 top quality goals.

  • A quick word of praise for Stewart who was superb all game both at the back and coming forward but obviously eclipsed by some phenomenal performances up front.

  • Got to agree with @MindlessDrugHoover I thought Stewart was excellent. Had Crawley had someone who could actually take corners and free kicks (two very poor corners and a free kick in the first half) we might have been in trouble during the first 45. Great save by brownie as well. I'm glad my jokey prediction of a second half goal fest came to pass. And my suggestion that gaz should take off CMS at 3-0 illustrates why I am not a football manager. Eze's goal and the preceding interplay with bayo was a thing of beauty. The big man was yet again one of the best footballers on the pitch. He even won a foul! Great to keep a clean sheet. Unfortunately, despite the great result I thought the officials were dreadful.

  • I have, on occasion, been one of GA's biggest critic but loved today. I know its already been said but when Eze gets the ball, its a thing a beauty. Noel Ashford for our much older viewers? whereas many players treat the ball like an unexploded bomb he traps the ball effortlessly, slides past defenders, always sees the pass and that first goal was orgasmic. So pleased for CMS; such desire and fitness and finishing and 'you fat bastard' he was triple marked for 45 minutes, never got a kick and destroyed Crawley in the 2nd half. I want the Beast to be my dinner party guest with Stephen Fry, Helen Mirren and Martin O'Neill. What music do I play? Lets get some points at Accrington and Yeovil, go for 3rd place, not play offs and get to 3rd round of the cup and play the Arse away and F them up big time. Sorry bit drunk after too many single malts. Love you and good night.

  • Agree with everything that has been said could I mention Blooms clever play and showed why he keeps his contract

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • @BuckinghamBlue Absolutely agree re Blooms. Just quietly kept us ticking over in midfield, allowing Eze licence to roam forward into the space behind the front three. His performance was similar to a classic Michael Simpson display - you might not notice it, but he was pulling all the strings and we'd have missed him if he wasn't there. He looks as fit and energetic as he did 14 years ago and I really, really hope he gets another year.

  • @Jonny_King , especially if we didn't go up, I think him staying would be nailed on.

Jombati is the one I think in major doubt. A clear second choice with Harriman out, and never 100% nailed even when he's not. He must have been on the bench a few weeks now, and is kept out by a short centre mid!
Maybe he's not fully fit, but I'd be worried if I were him.

Yesterday's second half was marvellous stuff. We're a real force this year. It doesn't quite feel like it did 3 years ago yet, but we have more goals and options about us for sure, so could end better!

  • I went with my brother (who used to go to around 5-10 games a season before getting sick of the hoofball) yesterday, and his enjoyment of the first half (nevermind the second) can be used a good yardstick as to how floating fans might be coming back. He was glad to see all four players along the back line confident in picking out a pass and not just whacking it long out of panic or a lack of belief in their own ability. Nevermind the glut of goals at the end, the crowds will come back if we play some good football.

Eze was in a class of his own, he was almost always able find a good pass going forward even when crowded out by the opposition. A real star turn capped by a goal of real class, I'm struggling to think of a goal that we've scored in the past few seasons that had that level of intricate interplay and outstanding skill from Eze. He doesn't shy from getting stuck in in midfield either, and surely will be go on to make a real name for himself when he goes back to QPR.
Hopefully we can treasure some more moments of magic from him while he's still here.

  • Agree @Malone about Sido. I did not see what others saw in Bloomfield yesterday to be honest. He was okay but I would rather have gape in midfield and sido at right back myself with matt on bench. Then again I would have taken CMS off at 3-0 up!!

  • Anyone else hoping QPR have forgotten about Eze?
