Club captain Grimmer given a new contract. Boyhood fan and long-serving staff member Sam Grace in interim charge for two games. Rejecting very large bids for existing players Low and Kone. Three examples of culture retention.
You may not like that they let Bloomfield go without much of a fuss and that they let go of his recruitment analyst and the psychologist and a few others, but there are many positives in other areas.
I’m by no means a Rice bootlicker, but let’s be fair and balanced. There have been a lot of debatably good and a lot of debatably bad decisions so far. All of those decisions warrant time. I’d like to remind many of you about the outrage when Des Buckingham was sacked a few weeks ago and since then Oxford are absolutely flying. What’s to say we can’t kick on even further than where we are now. FA Cup quarters? League title? Might seem unlikely now, but don’t rule it out.
We are spending a lot of money. Is there ffp in The Championship? If there is are the board banking on us getting promoted, and spending big in League One so it doesn't count towards any quota when we are in the higher division?
In regards to Humphries, right now I'd take him over the other 4 signings put together, he is a genius.
Yes, lots of football to be played, Humphreys is a brilliant footballer but also needs the occasional rest, not sure he's ever played first team football as regularly and often as he is now.
Haven't seen him play yet but suspect Lowry enables us to carry on and play the same way when Humphreys is tired, out of sorts or absent and can probably also fill in out wide, or other positions as needed.
That is a factor incentivising loaded owners spending quite frankly obscene money on transfers in League One. Another is that the SCMP rules from next season for League One will restrict the amount of "football fortune" money (mainly proceeds from investments into the club through share purchases) that can be spent on wages and transfer fees - currently 100% if capital injections can be spent on the playing budget.
Work with a fella whose son played for Chesterfield (until the summer transfer window). He said that Berry doesn’t have an attitude problem but sometimes he just loses focus. He said it’s the one thing he’s lacking and that if it wasn’t for that, he would be a Championship player.
FWIW this "attitude problem" that is being referred to by some Chesterfield fans is that he appeared to down tools in the past month and wanted a move. Who wouldn't do that when the mighty Wycombe come calling?
I know in theory our new signings are going to be good/better than we've already got but I do find it funny that we are all picking the team when none of us have ever seen the new signings play. This isn't a pop at anyone because I do it too, but it is pure Championship Manager stuff!
I'd like to pick the team based on the opposition, what is at stake and of course....data!
Reality is only Berry is match fit from the new signings so he is the only one I could see starting but more likely he gets 30 mins tomorrow with a possible start on Tuesday.
I would have hoped that at minimum the data sets used to justify the interest/purchase would have been shared with the coaching team in advance of their arrival.
Can only imagine the lad form Rangers would fit the "development" side of things, and can't imagine he'd moved here just to be a youth prospect. He surely joins the full squad when up to speed.
And assume he's one of the data driven signings like the rest of them?
Let's not hold that against him...to be fair Savage does seem a bit less of a tit here when talking about something he has worked on personally and seems to have made a contribution at Macclesfield.

Plus Joe Low

We have at least 21 games over the next 14 weeks.
Plenty of matches for all the new players to bed in and get game time, plus our better players to play lots and get some rest if needed.

In fairness, rejecting huge bids has never been in our culture!
But we all welcome it becoming so!

I did see a really looooong bench being delivered to Adams Park today, room for all the signings to be there.
Berry and Lowry have probably bunked off to London tonight to go to discotheques to find drugs and girls.
But that's ok as they are flair players.
In the 70s all players were flare players

One heck of a challenge for the current caretaker crew.
You wonder how much they actually know about these 4 or 5 new signings bar working with them for a few days.
I wonder therefore if we'll simply see safe lineups the next game or 2 with the new lads all benched.
I imagine that Sam Grace above anyone would have a say on the young players coming in. Otherwise what is the point in his role?
Assuming that his title is still "development manager"

Apologies if already posted. Savage believes Berry will play in the Premier League.

Any ideas what we paid for Berry? See Cook saying it's great business for Chesterfield
Interestingly (or not) his name is James Berry-McNally on Bet365
Talk on social media is around 400k plus add ons
Yes that’s his full name. But like Chris Forino only known by first surname.
He wasn't a regular starter in his final few months at Chesterfield. Interesting.
And slightly disturbing.
Yep, he's only actually played 60mins or more, 11 times in the league for them - with 6 of them by end of September.
And only played 1,065 mins from 22 league games.
I can't be the only one who assumed he was their main guy.
With the two Danes and Lowery, we've spent over 2m then!! That's insane
Don’t worry. The data says he’ll be great…
Actually find this oddly reassuring. If (very big ‘if’) he is a success here it gives a positive impression of our new world.
I think I prefer it to taking more high profile players.
