I get the technical side as have done a stint as a data analyst in The City and equally understand what the other roles do - I worked with some alarmingly hyper-intelligent data scientists (often referred to as "quants" in the City); often no common sense mind.
I am sure - it's unsurprisingly short for Quantitative Analysts - they are the "rocket scientists" that design the ever more complex trading algorithms that drive every high volume transaction undertaken in the city & much else besides.
