Is Wycombe Wanderers racist?

I've been following discussions on this board for a while and now feel compelled to add my voice after the appalling racist water buffalo slur on Bayo. In order to examine our club's own privilege, I believe the time has come to ask ourselves: is Wycombe Wanderers racist? The answer is 'yes' and if you disagree with this you are just part of the problem. First, look at our club badge: a swan, a symbol of whiteness and the historical oppression all white people (and their offspring) are inherently guilty of. To add insult to injury, the swan has a chain around its neck, a symbol of the thousands of years of bondage people of colour have been subjected to. Our club colour is blue, the colour of the police — an institutionally racist institution which has been institutionally oppressing people of colour in the UK since 1800. What's more, our club nickname is 'the chairboys', a gendered reference to the furniture trade in Wycombe in which hundreds of West Indians were forcibly removed from their homelands to work. I'd like to suggest some ways we can recognise our unconscious (and conscious) racism and show our allyship with the LGBTQ+BAME community: 1) change our club badge to feature an Silvery-cheeked Hornbill, a bird of African descent, 2) change our club kit to the rainbow stripes, 3) change our nickname so it isn't gendered, maybe the 'futonfolks' (?), 4) all players take a knee for the first 10 minutes of each half, and 5) give contracts to people of colour in the town regardless of their footballing ability to ensure our team reaches 100% diversity in the next few years. Only through these changes can we take the first steps to truly rid ourselves of our inherent racism, a racism of which we can never truly rid ourselves.

  • Poor attempt at a wind up this...

  • Awful attempt at being a human

  • Back to the drawing board "Jay"

  • Imagine thinking this watery shite is witty.

There are people who don't get it but are willing to learn. And then there are people who don't get it and don't want to get it - and then act all facetious as, what, a coping mechanism?

  • Joined at 08.32 today & posted that shite by 10.51. Did it really take you in excess of 2 hours to type that?

  • I think this is a very skewed opinion of Wycombe Wanderers. Just because we have these symbols doesn't mean what you think they mean.

During my time as a fan, I have not witnessed any type of racism to come out of the club although I am sure there would have been stuff that I don't know about. Also, would players, staff and supports of the club raised this by now and if they think that this is true.

It's an idiot kid on the WUM. It really didn't need a sensible reply!

  • What a wanker, worst of all I wasted my time reading that drivel

Sometimes you have got to talk sense into some people!

The answer to the question is NO. But joining and logging in just to post that suggests some fans obviously are.

  • D-
    Must try harder

  • I'm getting trigger-happy with the ban hammer lately.

  • Please pull the trigger on this thread good Dr.

  • Might start publicly posting the email addresses of the people I ban so that anyone who wants to continue conversing with them has the means to do so.

  • Yeah get rid. It’s like Rod Liddle is trying out ideas before submitting his copy to The Spectator.

  • Please delete this rubbish. It's horrible in any context

  • Usually Gasroom wind-ups, even the shit ones, were at least an attempt at humour. This is just plain malicious.

  • Would be a shame if these idiots that use the anonymity of message boards for hate were outed...

Am guessing whoever did it didn't sign up with an email using their real name!

They did. Never underestimate the stupidity of an internet troll.

edit: And not only that, one that is easily searchable and turns up their presence around the rest of the web too.

  • Is it just a coincidence that Emu and Jay are birds? I suppose the next one will be tit!

Hang on a second, say what you like about what "Jay" said, but threatening to publish someone's email address over a stupid and ill-considered comment is a bit of an extreme measure no?

    Would set a worrying precedent...

  • I don’t think publishing email addresses would happen - a GDPR breach. So I took it as an example frustration of the work that goes into running this forum being abused by a few idiots and not something that would actually happen

    Genuinely worrying stuff!

He's not saying he will do it, or would do it, it's simply designed as a little wake up call to the clown who posted the opening post to think through his actions a bit.

    However, should @drcongo decide to dm his details . . . ?

  • GDPR doesn’t apply to the Gasroom as it doesn’t have any economic activity.

  • Although I do sell all your details to various scammers and porn sites.

  • Ah, thanks @drcongo I can now blame my internet history to the wife on you!
