AFC Wimbledon to abandon full fan ownership?

They need 11 million quid for the new ground by January.

  • So their options are 1) raise 11 million quid before january or 2) sell the club by January, or 3) start the new season without a home. Awful.

  • It seems odd to build without knowing you can finish it. However, I hope they can figure it out. I suspect Wimbledon and Exeter are not going to be too far behind us...

  • Interestingly (ish) Exeter were discussing this at their trust AGM last week.

Worth a read for context. the apparent preferred option feels a little like Hayes's idea for a new stadium. To be fair it worked in Exeter for their rugby club. Personally not convinced their football club can just emulate it though especially as Exeter rugby have already grabbed the market.

Weren't they rebuilding half of it last time we were there ?

  • Yes indeed, they have replaced the rickety old stand along the side (which was just about to be condemned) and put a roof and some banking into the away area. I haven't been since it was done but I imagine its quite a nice looking ground now, the other two sides were very good already. Does feel an odd time to be thinking about moving but I suppose you are probably looking at ten years before any new ground could be opened. i wouldn't hold my breath that it will ever materialise personally.
