Nickname Quiz

Borrowing the quiz idea from the other thread, here is the quiz question.

What are the 13 clubs of this season's 92 with a job type or trade as their primary nickname? Please note I am not counting Chairboys, Tractor Boys, Pirates or Pilgrims. It needs to be something like Tailor, Cooper etc.

For bonus points, name the club with a former job nickname, but since changed to an animal nickname, and a second club that has a job for one of their secondary nicknames.

Comments

  • Crystal Palace were Glaziers now Eagles

  • Millers - Rotherham
    Brewers - Burton
    Mariners - Grimsby
Glovers - Yeovil (although I think Che has another animal-based nickname)
    Trawlermen - Fleetwood

  • I'm guessing Rovers doesn't count.

  • or Rangers

  • Hatters - Luton

  • Cobblers - Northampton

  • Bonus bonus points for @mooneyman as that was not even the club I was thinking of! That makes 16 total (13 + 3).

  • @Chris - no Rovers or Rangers, correct.

  • We are at 7 +1, so another 6 + 2 needed.

  • Royals from Reading - surprising how many people earn a good living from that trade

  • Villains

  • Gunners, Shrimpers

  • Good shout @DevC, though I did not include it as a job.

@LX1 - Gunners and Shrimpers were on the list, but not Villains.

    4 + 2 needed still.

  • Potters

  • Peterborough - piano tuners
    Bury - chartered accountants
    Leeds - landscape gardeners

  • Dons of Wimbledon

  • Potters leaves it as 3 + 2 needed.

@eric_plant - I think Bury are actually The Undertakers, and Leeds are the Dogwalkers.

  • Not sure everyone from your side of the pond would agree with you @Shev .
Bloody colonials, coming over here stealing our princes. It’s a betrayal of everything the 17.4m people voted for. English princes for English virgins just like the good old days - that’s what I say. Vote Nigel - he wouldn’t shack up with some foreign bird.....

  • Saddlers, Railwaymen

  • Well done @LX1 - 1 + 2 remaining.

@DevC - it seems on both sides of the pond, complete hysterical division over everything is the norm now. Those poor royals would be torn asunder.

  • As I am off away from my desk, here are the remaining answers:

    Silkmen - Macclesfield
    Secondary name: Colliers, Barnsley
Changed name: Dockers to Lions, Millwall

Another bonus question: which three league teams share a non-colour nickname? From the same general area of the country, no less.

    Robins.

  • Spot on! Bristol City, Swindon and Cheltenham form the West Country Songbird Gang.

  • Plus Charlton. Group of robins are called a round.

  • Another silly nugget: Here is the Premier League table for this season, but if the clubs all kept their original names:

    1 - St. Mark's (West Gorton)
    2 – Liverpool
    3 – Chelsea
    4 – Hotspur
    5 – Dial Square
    6 – Newton Heath LYR
    7 – St Luke’s
    8 – St. Domingo
    9 – Leicester Fosse
    10 – Thames Ironworks
    11 – Watford
    12 – Crystal Palace
    13 – Newcastle
    14 – Boscombe
    15 – Burnley
    16 – St. Mary’s YMA
    17 – Brighton
    18 – Riverside AFC
19 – St. Andrews Cricket & Football Club
    20 - Huddersfield

  • Weren't Reading known previously as the Biscuitmen before the Royals.

  • They were. And if Chairboys aren't allowed not having Silkmen!

  • Silkman is a dictionary definition as "one who sells silks", whereas I cannot find one for Chairboy other than fan of Wycombe Wanderers...though I am sure it can feel like a chore at times!

  • @Shev ..didn't know that! I take it back.

Think someone posted this link ages ago on here https://thebeautifulhistory.wordpress.com/

A quirky site which you can get lost in for a couple of hours

  • Ah, this is my kind of site, thanks @LX1!
