Wealdstone 1 Billericay Town 1

With record temperatures for February making it seem like Spring, what better way to spend a Monday evening than a visit to Grosvenor Vale, Ruislip to see Wealdstone take on Billericay Town in the National League South?

Billericay’s spending spree may have been somewhat curtailed recently but they still boasted some big names in their squad. It turned out to be a very entertaining game. Wealdstone bossed the first-half and took the lead with a deflected shot from right-back Jake Sheppard on 20 minutes.

After the break it was the visitors who took their turn to dominate. Shortly after bringing on Alfie Potter they equalised with the fourth consecutive shot on target by Danny Waldren. Billericay heaped on the pressure but Wealdstone defended stoutly & threatened on the break. The home side could have won it in the dying seconds but couldn’t get the decisive last touch.

906 fans turned out including about 50 from Essex. The Wealdstone ground is a quirky collection of small stands & bits of terracing but is a great place to watch Non-League football (£13 to get in). With an excellent club shop, badge stall, good burgers and a large social club it’s exactly what you’d hope a top Non-League club would be. Tonight had the football to match.
