  • Luton press conference 3.30 pm.

  • Of course there won't be protests. This is the Gasroom, not the whole fanbase. So no protests will prove no one is really too bothered?

It's interesting that some of the posters who spent years slagging off that Ainsworth and anyone connected with the club for their(in their opinion) inadequate running and managing of the club and lack of clarity are now berating people for being suspicious of the new owners as if its the most ridiculous take ever.

Good luck to Matt, whatever happened behind the scenes here's hoping the new era brings us joy in 2025.

  • That’s fine, I understand. I’ll say no more - ultimately it matters not.

  • @arnos_grove I don't think you're talking bollocks for attention btw - I think you're one of the more level-headed posters on here

  • From one of my sources - a guy I trust a lot:

”Heard from a reliable source that Bloomfield is leaving because he clashes with the owners and it’s actually quite toxic behind the scenes.”

  • Onwards and upwards anyway! Football’s an odd old business as we know. Like I said, think this probably suits all parties so we’ll just see what develops.

  • An Alan Sm*th type appointment is a real risk, where someone will come in and will seemingly be hellbent on destroying the intangible things that make our club truly ours.

Or the bloke Rice has in mind will make O'Neill, Ainsworth and Bloomfield look like kids whose only previous managerial experience was playing Championship Manager on cheat mode.

  • It is indeed, and the reason I've never wanted to work fully *in* it.

  • Why would there be a protest? We can all read into motivations, and I believe many of the assumptions about the owners not being overly keen on Blooms to be right, but what have they done wrong?

They gave a manager permission to speak to a side in the league above who are bound to pay him more than they were willing to. They've funded the squad well in the last 6 months, and the infrastructure of the club even more so, and are allegedly on the brink of spending over £1m this transfer window.

We can be frustrated at the way they've treated a club legend, and wish things had gone differently, but I don't think anything is worthy of protest.

  • There won't be - I was being facetious. I'll behave 🤐

  • Apologies, all nuance has been lost over 500 comments and a fraught 24 hours

  • I dont think anyone is shocked that there is a clash between manager and new owner. Especially if they are doing things differently to how he was doing it. I guess if you know what you are walking into at a new club you can prepare in advance.

  • @BrianJeeves68 bravely spoke about mental health on this forum recently.

This situation is having an impact on the mental health of those who use this forum.

Prodding and poking people for your own entertainment probably isn’t the best use of your time.

  • Interesting write up in the I by Daniel Storey. Touches on Bloomfield leaving but more wider reaching. Not sure there's anything new but worth a read all the same:

  • My one question to those who have good contacts behind the scenes is too ask whether they can shed light on why it is Dan Rice et al don't want Bloomfield to stay. The data clearly points to him being a massive asset, hence why Championship clubs seem to keen to take him off our hands. Is it a personality clash? This would seem strange as Matt and Dan seem cut from a similar cloth. Is it that they don't agree on who should control transfers for the men's squad? Is it over staffing off the field? Or something different or fundamentally deeper about the direction of travel for the club?

  • I think we’ve moved through despair, denial, to acceptance and now blame, the most toxic of the stages. Wish you and your family well, MB. Hope it all works out for you. And thus, tonight we march on to…Beaconsfield!

  • I am definitely not an ITK, but I'm pretty sure they've had their own man (who will just do what he's told) waiting in the wings for a very long time. So long, that they were fucking gutted when we started performing really well on the pitch.

  • We will probably get to know none of what actually occurred. Maybe the new management have done nothing wrong at all and Matt saw this as too good an opportunity to resist.

Matt’s stock is very high at the moment and he is an ambitious guy, so it could be just that.

It is sad to see him go but I wish him every success in the future (apart from when they play us).

The future still looks exciting for Wycombe even if some of us feel that things will never be the same.

I for one will embrace the change and hope and pray that things go from strength to strength.

    COYB!!!!

  • When the new owners took over, I felt that football was moving away from me and all of this doesn't detract from that. I understand that everyone's different but I don't feel the need to live my life through football and spending time in the Premier League with a billionaire owner from Kazakhstan isn't my dream. If this happens, I'll just feel that it's more than a bit wrong.

  • It would be easy for most people to choose to support a Premier League team.

In choosing to support Wycombe Wanderers, for some people at least, it’s because we’d rather support something different. It feels like Wycombe are now in the process of being subsumed into the behemoth of elite level football and its associated trappings.

For me it’s a shame we couldn’t have kept going with an old school owner more like the Couhigs. Had a training ground in the High Wycombe area. Had more regard for the history of the club and the people like Matt Bloomfield who have dedicated a huge part of their life to our success.

Life moves on and things don’t stay the same. I think someone said it feels just a little less special being a Wycombe fan today.

  • Did we ever get to know the reasons behind Lambert's departure? All I can recall was him stating that "things weren't right at the club" or something like that.

  • "Paul Lambert has resigned as the Wycombe Wanderers manager after two years in charge, saying it was time to "hand over the reigns to someone else". The club failed in their promotion bid at the weekend when they lost their League Two play-off semi-final to Stockport County.

"I am bitterly disappointed that we failed to win promotion, but I leave with my head held high," said Lambert. "This is a great club, but I feel that the time has come for me to move on. I haven't been forced out - the decision to leave is entirely mine - and I don't have another job to go to. I just feel that this is the right thing to do.

"I want to thank the players for their fantastic efforts this season. They're a first class group of lads who worked incredibly hard for me and never provided a moment's trouble. Whoever takes over will inherit an excellent squad."

Basically, he felt like he couldn't take us any further and it was someone else's turn to have a go

  • As a kid I knew a few Wycombe fans that also supported a top division side (from afar rather than attending matches). I show my age when that division was called 'Division One' and supporting Wycombe meant league games against Walthamstow, Windsor, St Albans and Croydon. It felt OK to do that as it was never likely their paths would cross. As a kid I picked Liverpool (because they were successful) but quickly grew out of that and developed a fondness for Wimbledon as you could look at them and imagine Wycombe doing something similar one day. Later I followed AFC Wimbledon (because of the MK disgrace) and again there was such a distance between them and us in terms of playing level that it seemed OK.

  • I think the "things not being right at the club" was something he said (or was rumoured to have said) at a later stage.

  • Exactly this. It's changing and not for the better from a community viewpoint but possibly from a league position. I think the Shrewsbury Chairman summed it up the other week. Not much has changed at their end but everyone else's budgets have changed around them and they cannot compete.

Over the last 34 years at AP we have more highs and lows than any other league team. In it together and a community. I just don't see how that continues with all this money being spent and a potential journey to the media's "promised land"

I may be being bitter and I know we need a sugar daddy to survive but I wanted a small sugar daddy who kept us in league one with the occasional foray into the Championship and maybe a drop down to League Two for a few seasons. This feels quite different and our club may have changed forever. I need to decide if I want to be a part of that or cut my nose off to spite my face.

I'm going to miss the reaction of people asking me who I support and I answer "Wycombe Wanderers" as most people just don't get why supporting a lower league club is massively thrilling and a rollercoaster. An established, Premier League / Championship WWFC doesn't have quite the same appeal. That's definitely my issue and something I need to come to terms with.

  • I recall being told that he mostly only bothered showing up at the club on match days, and never bothered to learn the names of many of the people who worked there, so I'm not sure how qualified he would have been to tell!

  • The past teaches us that managers and players come and go. I remember being gutted when Brian Lee resigned, but the club went on. Was trying to think of something more profound to post, but I cant think of anything that’s not already been said. Ultimately it’s the fans who are the club. We’re still here, for now. We have a billionaire owner now, things will change. Would we prefer the Couhig’s?
