I must have fallen into a deep sleep and missed most of January as some posters on the fans Facebook page are asking why we haven’t made any signings yet!

Could, if we're quick pinch Couhtinio from under the nose of Barcelona?

  • Defenders for us I think.

  • With two specialised right backs out and one decent covering right back not fit enough to start it would be a brave / foolhardy choice to sign another right back. GA will need his crystal ball to see the Stewart position as we need more in the centre of the defence. Scarr and El Abd both had moments of competence today but also showed terrifying levels of ineptitude and panic. Scarr I can forgive due to lack of experience, El Abd I find more puzzling and he still does not install confidence in me.

  • We’ve surely got to go in for a right back on loan. They’ll get first team opportunites, at least until ours are fit again.

  • Just like Bean though, El Abd has just come back from an injury himself.

Against a much better team than we'll play in the league, with so many doubts in the defence together, it really was asking too much today.

Just wish we'd given ourself a slight chance by lasting more than a min or so!

  • I see Franck Moussa is a free agent. Played almost his entire career at a higher level and knows where the goal is. Still only 28.

  • But does he know how to defend and take throw-ins @Jonny_King ?

  • I remember him being a good box to box midfielder during his loan spell with us. Don't recall how good his throw-ins were, but they can't have worse than Bean's on Saturday by the sound of it!

  • We have lost Umerah, Eze, Williams, Muller and Baz from our payroll so we must surely have flex in our budget to bring in a few players who would underpin our drive for automatic promotion or play-offs. We also have the funds generated by the 500 club.

I appreciate that the transfer window will not close until the end of the month but a number of top half teams in our league have done their business early to maximise the return on their investment and improve their chances of challenging for the top 7. Yes we are in 5th spot but with 11th placed Newport only 4 points behind us, we need to bolster our tiring and injury prone squad.

Let us hope Gaz and the board still have the drive and enthusiasm to push on and get in a few quality recruits that may make all the difference.

  • Re the above post. Did I miss Williams returning to Reading?

  • Williams went back to QPR

  • I doubt any of those players took up much wage budget at all. Do clubs like Wycombe really pay anywhere near the full wage for players such as Williams and Umerah?

I could be wrong but I always assumed we'd pay a fraction of the parent club's financial obligation.

  • The whole point is that it is still a saving and we need to use what funds we have to improve the squad for the final push.

  • It could actually be part funded loanees.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Heard Dobbo recount the story of the Mawson loan recently. Basically they knew about Alfie, Alfie was on the verge of giving up as he was disillusioned with things at Brentford, Dobbo rung Warburton (?) and asked if we could borrow Alfie and we had NO money at all. The rest I guess is history

  • Imagine when he thinks back to those days now!

  • When you think how much agents make out of player moves and someone like Dobbo, who has found and nurtured a number of talented players, gets nothing at all. Dobbo is a gem and even more important to the club than Ainsworth really.

  • Wouldn't it be nice if Ibe, Phillips and Mawson clubbed together and donated a day's wages to get the youth programme up and running again.

  • (Obvs Mawson didn't come through our youth system, he's just in there to make up the numbers)

  • In fact, wouldn't it be nice if there was a movement like this http://pledge1percent.org encouraging players to sign up to pledge 1% of their top flight earnings back to the running of the youth team that made them.

  • A great suggestion for former players who have made it big to repay their previous club.

But, i dare say, if someone paid way less you you or I, suggested that we donated something to our first employer, or somewhere we'd "made our name", we wouldn't dream of doing so!

  • It would be nice if Ibe, Philips and Mawson paid my mortgage off.

  • exactly, what a ridiculous statement from @drcongo

  • quite quite ridiculous and on a forum where ridiculous statements are never posted by not no-one never.

  • If richie says it's ridiculous @StrongestTeam I think we can all agree...

  • I'll get my coat.

  • Is that the coat Alfie bought you?

  • It's the coat Ruth got him...
