Following Sunderland's 1-0 win at Bury tonight the draw was made for the 2nd round of the League Cup. It was done live on Sky with John Salako & Alex McGleish.

Firstly, the draw was regionalised North and South. But work this out!!! Cardiff Ciry were placed in the South but Newport County in the North. Meanwhile, Birmingham City & Wolves were in the South along with Burton Albion while West Brom were in the North.

They then cocked up the South draw by saying the first four clubs were drawn away when they were in fact at home. The confirmation of the South draw was omitted from Sky Sports News for about 20 minutes while they tried to sort out what the hell was happening. So now Brentford go to QPR rather than Griffin Park and Bristol City travel to Watford rather than host them.

All in all a shambolic way to sort out the Second Round. Somebody ought to send a map of England & Wales to the relevant officials so they have an idea in future of the difference between the North and South!!! Burton in the South and Newport in the North - give me a break!!!

What an absolute shambles it was - quite funny watching it unfold though. John Salako was shaking like a leaf once he'd realised his mistake with the southern section. I'm sure they had issues with the first round draw as well.

On Newport though, I think they've been put in the northern section because both themselves and West Ham have to play away next round. Therefore they had to remove any chance of them drawing each other. I can't explain the Midlands clubs though!

The draw was seeded than regionalised.

Hence Birmingham, Wolves and Burton were in the Southern half of the crap teams and West brom in the northern half of the elite teams.

As noted above Newport were an exception as Rodney Parade is still out of action along with WH Olympic stadium and they didn't want the complication of them drawing each other and both having to play away!

Really a trophy that has had its day though. Really hard to see its point.
